As far back as grade school I can remember the enjoyment I got from putting pieces of paper and other things together. I liked the designs they would make once the pieces were put back together differently.
I consider myself a collage artist. Magazine paper is my medium of choice, National Geographic to be more specific. I have been doing collage for close to 3 years now and was first inspired by a dear friend of mine. She put images together in such a way that her pieces pulled me right in. I was never fond of boring old pictorial collage and hers were anything but. In my own style I gravitated toward the abstract, partly because of this and partly because I've always been drawn to it.
I always strive to take collage into a more abstract direction. This is my way of attempting to stretch the boundaries of what one would consider collage. I believe it doesn’t have to always be several pictorial images arranged to try to tell a story, but it can be abstract views to evoke a feeling. I would like the viewer of my work to look at it and not recognize that it is in fact collage, at least not at first glance.
All my pieces are covered with a thin coat of resin. This adds
visual depth as well as protection.
